A new piece of art is being installed at the Bolin Creek Trail and the Town of Chapel Hill is inviting residents to join them as they install this new public art piece.
The event will begin at 1:30 Friday afternoon. The installation will occur near the Gene Strowd Community Rose Garden and parking is available at the Chapel Hill Community Center.
The sculpture titled, “Creatures of the Sky” by artist Jim Gallucci, features realistic birds in flight at the apex of the arch, according to a release.
The sculpture was created exclusively for this Chapel Hill site. Officials say the sculpture is the appropriate height and width to allow both pedestrians and bicyclists to pass under it.
The artwork is one of 12 sculptures placed in various locations that include parks and community centers as a part of Chapel Hill’s Sculpture Vision Program.
