Nurse Tips: Try This Bread!

By Jennifer Halloran Posted June 14, 2013 at 5:57 am

In the two years I’ve been writing the Nurse Tip of the Month, I’ve never endorsed a product. But when making breakfast this morning, I looked at a product Diane and I use consistently: Ezekiel 4:9 sprouted grain bread.

But then I looked at the label.

One slice of Ezekiel bread contains 0.5 gm fat, 3gm fiber, 4 gm protein, and 0 sugars — much better than most whole wheat breads on the market today. The Ezekiel people do this by using specific sprouted grains (the same ones mentioned in the Christian Bible, hence the verse) that together form a protein.

Then I tasted it, and I really liked it. It has a nutty flavor, kind of like whole wheat bread “plus.” It’s good toasted in the morning, or to make sandwiches.

Ezekiel bread can be a valuable tool in our quest to limit processed carbohydrates and sugars, especially ones hidden in everyday foods.

This treat is available in many flavors (check the labels on each because the nutritional information will be different) and can be found in many regular grocery stores as well as Whole Foods and health food stores.

We wish you a healthy and delicious June!
