In covering the news and keeping the community informed, unfortunately we have to report a lot of bad news; but rest assured that every Friday throughout the summertime, when you tune into WCHL, we will have some good news to report to you!  That’s because it is “Good News Friday!”

Presented by The Strowd on Franklin Street, and their Shag Dance Fridays!

Listen to Ron Stutts broadcast this week’s ‘Good News Friday’ featured story.

Listen to FRIENDS of Orange County DSS President Pat Garavaglia and Michael Rosenbacher, Owner/Manager of The Strowd discuss the event with Aaron Keck during the WCHL Evening News on July 21st.

This weekend, it really is Christmas in July!

For nearly 70 years The US Marine Corps Reserves’ ‘Toys for Tots’ has been one of the iconic charitable programs in our country.

And for the past nine years, The Orange County Department of Social Services has supported the effort by operating the Orange County Toy Chest program.

The stated goal is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, and patriotic citizens.

So Why is it Christmas in July?! Last year, the Orange County Toy Chest program made Christmas possible for children of more than 3,000 local families by collecting over 10,000 toys and books. But that only met one third of their need. So this year, they are getting started early and they need your help!

This Sunday from 5-10PM, while Santa’s on vacation at the beach, you can bring new and unwrapped Toys and Books to The Strowd, above Sutton’s Drug Store on Franklin Street, and give a boost to this year’s Orange County Toy Chest program.

AND, at The Strowd, the FRIENDS of the Orange County DSS, the volunteer organization that is the backbone for the holiday toy drive every year, is hosting “A Christmas in July” holiday party, so you are invited to an evening of goodwill, good cheer, and good deeds.

Christmas in July and helping the children of Orange County – that’s our Good News Friday story of the week!
