In covering the news and keeping the community informed, unfortunately we have to report a lot of bad news; but rest assured that every Friday throughout the summertime, when you tune into WCHL, we will have some good news to report to you!  That’s because it is “Good News Friday!”

Listen to Ron Stutts broadcast today’s “Good News Friday!”

You probably haven’t heard the name Osiris Rankin, but after today you won’t be able to forget.

In 2010 at 31 years old, without a college degree and working retail in Chapel Hill, Osiris decided he needed to make a change. He had 2 goals in life: to be a father with sufficient and stable employment, and provide a return on investment to all the people in his life who had made an investment in him.

With zero college credits and having received no passing grades in his only classes after high school at an out of state community college, Osiris enrolled into Durham Tech.

He started by only taking two classes, but with the support of his instructors, he learned how to prepare, manage his time, study properly and perform in the classroom. Through this, he had success and gained confidence; he realized he had a passion for Psychology and pursued it as his major. Two years later, after graduating with a 4.0 GPA, he enrolled into UNC as a University transfer.

Capitalizing on the momentum and his new found good habits, Osiris excelled during his time in Chapel Hill, recently graduating Phi Betta Kappa with Highest Distinction from UNC and earning a BA in Psychology.

And that’s not the end of the educational path for Osiris; as this September, he begins the Clinical Psychology graduate program at Harvard!

Put best in his own words, “I think of myself as a creative person, but I never imagined when I started with 2 courses in August 2010 that I’d be studying at Harvard in September 2016.”

Osiris Rankin, you are our Good News Friday story of the week!
