Be Loud! ’16, a concert benefiting the Be Loud! Sophie Foundation, raised $46,723.
The concert was held at Cat’s Cradle on August 26 and August 27. It featured an impressive lineup of bands headlined by The English Beat and Preesh! The latter is a super group which includes John Plymale of The Pressure Boys, Robert Sledge of Ben Folds Five, Brian Dennis from Dag and so many more. Guest vocalists included Mac McCaughan of Superchunk, Daniel Chavis from The Veldt, Jeff Holshouser from Hank Sinatra, and Peter Holsapple from the dB’s.
The Be Loud! Sophie Foundation supports adolescent and young adult cancer patients and their families at UNC Hospitals. It was started in honor of a teenager named Sophie Steiner. She was a lover of music and a cancer patient. When she was 13, she wrote this poem and published it on her blog:
“…Be loud
And move with grace
Explode with light
Have no fear…”
Organizers discussed the concert and the foundation with Ron Stutts and Aaron Keck.
