The Chapel Hill High School girls’ basketball team completed the quest for perfection Saturday defeating Hickory High in the Dean Smith Center 69-56.

Sherry Norris has coached 917 games and has won more than 540 of those contests. She coached the Tigers to a state title in 1981, but she said none that have come before equate to Saturday’s conclusion.

“This one is the one that all coaches dream of,” Coach Norris said after the game. “Just being undefeated, every coach dreams of that. 32-0, that’s just hard to describe. I’ve been coaching 37 years, every year I’m like, ‘oh, I wish I could coach an undefeated team and win the state championship’. And to get to do it here on our home court—the Smith Center is like our home court because we’re in our home town in front of our crowd—it’s just hard to describe how that feels.”

Those comments were made by the head Tiger after the state title game, and Norris joined Ron Stutts and Ran Northam on the WCHL Monday Morning News to relive the championship experience.

Four other seniors capped their high school career the way others only dream of. Jamella Smith scored 12 points and pulled down six boards; Jasmine Suitt had two points; Paige Timothy played crucial minutes off the bench; and Olivia Clayton provided strong support from the bench after a season-ending injury placed her there after three games this season.

Along with Farrington, four other juniors return next season pointing to another strong squad for Norris and the Tigers.
