If you don’t play, you can’t lose.

The UNC football team stuck to that bold strategy over its bye week this past weekend, and as a result the Tar Heels moved up three spots to No. 18 in the new AP Top 25.

With teams that were ranked higher than UNC–like Florida State and Boise State–losing their games on Saturday, it allowed head coach Larry Fedora’s team to take advantage.

Now with just four games left in the season–all against unranked competition–the Tar Heels appear to be peaking at the right time.

Within the ACC, only Clemson (No. 3) and Louisville (No. 5) are ranked above UNC.

Altogether, the league has five ranked teams with No. 19 Florida State and No. 23 Virginia Tech rounding out the group.

The Big Ten and the SEC each also have five teams among the polls, creating a three-way tie for conference supremacy late in the season.

This weekend, UNC will be back in Kenan Stadium to take on Georgia Tech–while also hoping to surpass its season high of No. 17 in the rankings with a dominant effort.
