Stigma still may be the largest obstacle in the way of eradicating HIV and AIDS today as treatments continue to advance, even with the recent announcement from Charlie Sheen.

Some of the most cutting edge research being done regarding HIV/AIDS is happening at Carolina.

Julian Wooten is the Director of the Red Ribbon for Courage campaign at UNC and he spoke with WCHL’s Blake Hodge about efforts to reduce the stigma surrounding HIV and events on campus for World AIDS Day, on Tuesday.

Free oral swab HIV testing will be held today from 10 o’clock until 4:45 in the Great Hall on Carolina’s campus. Wooten says you can receive your confidential results in less than an hour and that testing is open to the entire community.
