The UNC football team finished the season ranked No. 15.

The final AP poll released Tuesday morning.

The Tar Heels finished the season at 11-3.  It was one of the most successful seasons in UNC football history.  The season started with a loss to South Carolina.  Then, UNC football went on a 11-game winning streak.  The season ended with losses to Clemson in the ACC Championship and Baylor in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Clemson finished the season ranked No. 2.  The Tigers lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide Monday night in the College Football Playoff championship game.  Stanford, Ohio State, and Oklahoma rounded out the top 5.

One other ACC team made the top 25.  Florida State finished at No. 14, one spot ahead of the Tar Heels.

The Tar Heels will begin next season much like they did this year’s–with a season opening game against an SEC opponent. They will take on the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta on September 3rd in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game.  Head coach Larry Fedora, who won the FCA National Coach of the Year Award on Monday, will return with an extended contract.
