Just before the number 10 UNC football team and top-ranked Clemson are set to square off for the ACC Championship, the univeristy has agreed to a 7-year contract with head coach Larry Fedora, WCHL has confirmed.

The news was initially reported by ESPN.

UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham released the following statement announcing the contract:

“Coach Fedora has done an outstanding job of leading our football program and I am pleased that he has agreed to be our coach well into the next decade. He has helped to lift Carolina football into the national discussion and put our program in a position to compete for championships on a consistent basis while also allowing our student-athletes to succeed in the classroom and have a positive impact in the community.”

No financial details were officially made available. Sources say the contract has a salary range between 2.5 and 3 million dollars per year with a buyout initially at 1.2 million dollars and decreasing throughout the life of the contract.

The contract will have to be approved by the Board of Trustees.

The Tar Heels are coming off of 11 wins in a row and are set for the first appearance in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship game in Charlotte at eight o’clock.
