Orange County officials are urging residents to prepare for any inclement weather that could impact our community from Hurricane Matthew.

The storm is currently a Category 4 Hurricane in the Carribean. While models are still showing varying paths Matthew could take, the most recent predictions show that it could skirt the eastern United States.

Meteorologists are forecasting the storm to be a Category 2 as it approaches North Carolina’s coast.

County officials say, “resources are on stand-by and channels of communication between agencies are open.”

Residents can prepare for the possibility of any inclement weather by preparing to be self-sufficient with supplies for at least 72 hours and having a kit, a plan and a way to stay informed, according to the county.

County emergency officials say residents should be prepared for a disruption in services and delayed response time from emergency services, depending on the severity of the storm.
