Keith Cochran is this week’s Hometown Hero.

Keith Cochran

Keith Cochran coaches his squad

Keith coached Rainbow Soccer teams for 30 years before recently retiring.  He started in 1986 when his oldest son was 6.  He coached both of his sons and they became assistant coaches as adults.

He is stepping down now because he normally gets a group of kids and stays with them throughout their entire run with Rainbow Soccer.  His last group of players is aging out of the program and the team won their last tournament, so it is a perfect time to bow out.

For those 30 years, Keith was on the sidelines for 2 practices a week and a Saturday game.

Rainbow Soccer started in 1972.  For over 40 years, the organization has been providing recreational soccer experiences for youth and adults in Orange County and the surrounding areas.  They serve more than 1,300 children each season and over 300 adults from Chapel Hill, Durham, Carrboro, Hillsborough and other surrounding communities.

You can nominate your own Hometown Hero.  WCHL has honored local members of our community since 2002.
