Heavy rain in our community has forced the Town of Hillsborough to announced that the Riverwalk greenway and Gold Park will remain closed “for the time being.”

The greenway and park were initially closed Tuesday afternoon after the Eno River submerged walkways in certain spots along the trail. The town announced Wednesday morning that the greenway and park would reopen after crews finished removing mud and debris, but additional rain caused the water levels to rise once again.

Town officials say they will continue to monitor the condition of the greenway and park in the coming days and reopen them “as soon as possible.”

Closing signs and caution tape will be removed from entrances when it is deemed safe and reopened.
