Traffic is seeing heavy delays on I-40 West in Orange County Friday afternoon as emergency crews are battling a reported fire.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation reported that one lane of I-40 west was closed at mile marker 263 just after two o’clock Friday afternoon. By 3:30, traffic had backed up past the Highway 54 exit, 273.
Authorities say the delay was caused by a brush fire that brought heavy smoke and congestion.
