A dedication ceremony for the Orange County Veterans Memorial will take place on Friday, Veterans Day.

The memorial has been a work in progress with fundraising efforts underway and accelerating throughout 2016 after a site was chosen for the memorial.

The dedication is scheduled for 11 o’clock Friday morning at the Southern Human Services Center on Homestead Road, where the memorial will be located.

Officials say the project will be funded through private donations in addition to support and land donation from Orange County. The Town of Chapel Hill is also supporting the memorial.

“This park is to remind us to remember all who served in whatever place, in whatever capacity — the men and women of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and the Coast Guard,” said Steering Committee Member, Jim Merritt in a release.

Friday’s event will also feature Doug Guthe as a guest speaker. Guthe joined the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School following a career with the US Navy.

A reception in the Southern Human Services Center will follow the dedication.
