President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Chapel Hill on Wednesday to campaign for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

The stop from Obama means that several changes are being made to normal traffic patterns and parking. University officials say the disruptions will be focused in areas near Hooker Fields – where Obama is scheduled to speak – especially along South Road.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area entirely if at all possible.

South Road will be closed to through traffic beginning at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon. The road is scheduled to reopen at five o’clock in the evening. Parking meters on South Road will be unavailable beginning at five o’clock Wednesday morning.

Parking for the event is available at the Rams Head Deck and the S11 Manning Lot, according to UNC, at $5 per vehicle. The S11 Manning Lot will be served by shuttle.

Chapel Hill Transit services will also be impacted by the visit. Transit officials are advising riders to expect schedule delays and detours. All routes may experience delays and officials are already planning detours for the CCX, FCX, G, RU, S and V routes due to the closure of South Road. The detours will be scheduled to be in place from 12:30 until five o’clock Wednesday evening.
