The NC Governor’s Highway Safety Program just finished up their holiday “Booze it & Lose it” campaign, which ran from December 11, 2015 to January 3, 2016.
“It is our goal to reach zero fatalities on our roads in North Carolina,” said Don Nail, director of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program. “I am thankful of the work North Carolina’s law enforcement officers did during the holidays keeping those traveling the states roadways safe.”
The campaign resulted in 3,074 DWI charges. There were drug related charges and 2,822 alcohol related charges.
In Orange County, 35 DWI charges were made, only one of which involved drugs.
Durham County saw 49 DWI charges over the holidays, with four drug related.
Wake County had the highest number of DWI charges, with 260, followed by Guilford at 208.
Overall 1,578 checkpoints were set up across the state and 108,094 traffic violations and criminal charges were filed.
