The full 2016 UNC football schedule was released Tuesday afternoon.

The Tar Heels will begin the season against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, September 3 in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game.  That game will be played in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

The follow Saturday, September 10, the UNC football team will head to Champaign, Illinois to play the Big Ten’s Illinois Fighting Illini.

James Madison will come to Chapel Hill on Saturday, September 17 for the Tar Heels’ first home game of the season.  The game will be first of two contests against FCS opponents for UNC football in 2016.

ACC play begins at home for the Tar Heels on September 24 against Pitt.

Then, the UNC football travels to Florida State for a tough ACC away game on October 1.  UNC hosts Virginia Tech on October 8.  Two ACC away games will follow.  October 15 at Miami and October 22 at Virginia.

The following week will be an open one for UNC football.

Georgia Tech comes to Chapel Hill on November 5.

Carolina’s lone Thursday night game will be against Duke in Durham on November 10.

The Citadel will provide a break from ACC play on November 19.  The Bulldogs will be the second FCS opponent to visit Kenan Stadium in 2016.

The Tar Heels host NC State on Friday, November 25 to close out their regular season.

The 2015 season was one of the best ever for the UNC football team.  The Tar Heels finished 11-3.  The team’s 570 points was the most in a season in school history.  Senior quarterback Marquise Williams ended his career having accounted for the third most touchdowns (99) in ACC history.

Rising junior Mitch Trubisky will likely take over the reins at the quarterback position.  He will have help from returning offensive stars Elijah Hood and Ryan Switzer.
