An arrest has been made nearly one year after a bank robbery in Chapel Hill.
Chapel Hill Police say the department sought warrants in late March for the arrest of Gregory Bauer Roberts, of Chapel Hill, for the robbery of SunTrust Bank on May 28, 2015.
“We got some information from an anonymous tip that led us to Mr. Roberts,” said lieutenant Josh Mecimore with the Chapel Hill Police. “It appeared he had committed the crime, we established probable cause, took out warrants for him.”
Nearly a month after the warrants were taken out for his arrest, officials say Roberts turned himself in at the Orange County Jail last Thursday.
“He was traveling, or at least reported he was traveling after the time we had taken out warrants,” Mecimore said. “So that accounts for the nearly one month between the warrants being taken out and him actually being arrested for it.”
Roberts is accused of telling a bank teller to hand over $34,000 dollars if they wanted to live.
He has been charged with one felony count of common law robbery. Officials say he was processed and released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
Roberts is due back in court on May 27.
