Let’s start with outfits for the myriad of holiday soirees filling up your holiday calendar. Time to pull out the sparkles and sequins. Why not get a little glammed up?! The holidays only hit once a year. Sure, an LBD (little black dress) is always on par for the party scene, but how about switching it up this season. Opt for a dress in a single statement color or go for a rainbow-hued design. How about a rich burgundy dress in textured lace with metallic platforms and vintage gold jewelry for an old-world touch. Ruby red and bold jewels also make for the ultimate evening companions.

Now on to the shopping list.

Jewelry is always a good choice for spreading holiday cheer. This season, try a piece from Nicole Richie’s House of Harlow 1960 collection which you can find at bevello on East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.  Whether you gift it to yourself or others on your list, these starburst sparkles are sure to turn heads. I’ve seen many House of Harlow pieces on fashionistas here on the Hill.

Coloring books for adults seem all the rage right now. Apparently this creative outlet helps you relax and reduces stress. Call it therapeutic art or just a throw back to childhood. I just saw an adult coloring book of animal designs offered on Groupon that had already sold 5,000! Coloring book parties and classes will soon be appearing at a location near you.

Dinner, drinks, and a movie at University Place’s upscale Silverspot Cinema makes a great escape for the couple who needs a night out. Check out the upscale all-in-one entertainment and eatery venue for gift certificates. (Spoiler alert to my parents!) Gift “experiences” trump tangibles for the people on your list who seem to have it all.

Gifts for guys can be tricky.

Not only are guys picky but they don’t always voice what they’d like to see under the Christmas tree. I understand guys want cool ways to carry around their gear and drinks. Think vintage-inspired mug, patriotic flask or a canvas duffle bag. Or to show his favorite team colors and spirit a sports koozie might be the ticket. Plus it keeps his hands warm and his beverage cool. Make him happy with a pair of Muck boots that will keep his feet dry and warm while doing what he loves most. Personalizing a gift for him is classic. Almost anything can by monogrammed from that canvas duffle bag to a leather magnetic money clip to some Bond-like secret agent cufflinks. Check out Julian’s or Gentlemen’s Corner on Franklin Street for some sartorial threads and accessories to upgrade his wardrobe.

Before you head to that holiday soiree don’t forget a gift for the hosts with the most. Make it easy and stop by Southern Season. You will find something for everyone at Chapel Hill’s gourmet food and gift emporium from coffee & tea, chocolate, vino, food gift baskets galore and more.

Now how about helping those who really need some warmth this winter with the gift of blankets to a very worthy annual event called Blanket Orange County. Check out their Facebook page and donate what you can. Sharing your time and talents this time of year with one of the many worthy service organizations in the area gives the ultimate holiday glow.
