Boy, do they have a tin ear.

I can’t believe that right after the uproar over the outrageous raises given to the UNC System chancellors, the UNC Board of Trustees, turns around and gives outrageous raises to its administrators and athletic director.

Saying they need to keep their salaries competitive, they have completely ignored the fact that faculty and staff have not had significant raises in years.  Much less competitive.

This year they only got a $750 bonus.  Raise means that each year’s pay is based on that higher amount.  Whereas a bonus doesn’t, it’s just that one-time payment.  So, it’s a double-negative.

Here it is in its naked ugliness.  The nine administrators at the vice-chancellor level are already paid more than $300,00 a year.  Annual increases on top of that range from $3,000-plus to $58,000-plus.

Talk about income inequality.

This just significantly improved the life for administrators who already enjoy a comfortable income while leaving faculty and staff further behind.  I wish those administrators, and trustees too, would visit some of the lowest paid workers who have to live in a trailer park or drive from Burlington everyday.

Listen to Ellie Kinnaird’s commentary

Would they really have given generous raises to those who live in mcmansions if they knew what they doing to those at the other end of the pay scale?

How about the athletic director?

Did he really need a $58,388 raise to keep up with the Joneses?  I know many housekeepers who would be happy to have his raise as their regular pay.

Year after year, the trustees have raised tuition for students.  How on earth can they justify those raises when they are making it harder for students to attend UNC?

What a slap in the face.

Cushy raises at the expense of faculty and workers.  It is time for the revolution.
