Proposed Porthole Alley Redevelopment Plans Preserve Carolina Coffee Shop

UNC held public information sessions about the Porthole Alley redevelopment project this week. Porthole Alley is located where the UNC Campus meets Downtown Chapel Hill. It encompasses 128 East Franklin Street through 144 East Franklin Street and includes businesses like Johnny T-shirt, Cosmic Cantina and Carolina Coffee Shop. Project planners say the proposal aims to strengthen the economic vitality of Downtown Chapel Hill and have more university programming.

U.S. Army veteran John Spencer served in Vietnam more than 50 years ago. Unlike many other vets, however, he’s been living for decades without the benefits and awards that he deserved – one of those being a Purple Heart. A program at the UNC School of Law changed that for Spencer.

UNC Report: Nursing Shortage Projected Even Before Pandemic Stressors

A new workforce model developed at UNC forecasts significant nursing shortages over the next decade. By 2033, North Carolina is expected to face an estimated shortage of nearly 12,500 registered nurses and more than 5,000 licensed practical nurses.
