Named for the address, the 203 Project in Carrboro is a project between the town and county to house both government and community services. The project was approved in March 2020 by the county commissioners with the county providing some of the funds for the project and the Town of Carrboro providing the rest. The estimated cost in the two years since has increased with both the county and town needing to invest more funding.
Big changes are happening in the Carrboro arts scene. For the past three years, The ArtsCenter has been planning to move to a new building on Jones Ferry Road. Now, that plan is changing. The ArtsCenter announced it will instead relocate its programming to a building at Roberson Street.
A recent study from housing consultants in Chapel Hill showed the town needs to build approximately 485 homes every year to keep up with rising demand in the area. Local housing experts say a combination of an expensive housing market and rapid development in town are making that goal harder to achieve.
The Town of Chapel Hill is officially delaying construction on the Estes Drive Connectivity Project until the spring. The project is slated to construct sidewalks, crossing and intersection improvements as well as raised bike lanes along Estes Drive.
After the Obey Creek development failed to find retailers to fill its mixed-use project in 2015, a new development may be slated to take its place. The South Creek development is proposing more than six hundred townhomes and condos in the space across from Southern Village.
