Prior to their tour of Germany in June, 2014, the 50-voice Chancel Choir of the United Church of Chapel Hill, under the direction of Jennifer Anderson, will perform their tour concert, “Ohne Grenze (Without Borders),” at home in their own sanctuary, Sunday, May 18, 4:00 p.m. The program, which honors the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, will include sacred music of Germany and the United States that celebrates the themes of unity and freedom and will include arrangements of Shape-note Hymnody, African-American spirituals and gospel. The featured work in the second half of the program will be J.S. Bach’s Cantata 149, “Man Singet mit Freuden (Sing with Joy).” The choir will be accompanied by organ and orchestra. Admission is free. Proceeds from the offering will support the choir’s trip.
