MURPHEY SCHOOL RADIO SHOW RETURNS NOVEMBER 2, 2013
North Carolina literary favorites, ALLAN GURGANUS, novelist, and PHILLIP SHABAZZ, poet, will be headliners in another benefit variety show at the historic Murphey School on Saturday, Nov 2, 2013.
In the tradition of the Grand Ole Opry and Prairie Home Companion, the Murphey School Radio Show features music, comedy and readings by local musicians and writers. It is billed as “A Celebration of Triangle Wit, Lit and Music.
Special musical guests for November include Mary Johnson Rockers and her band.
Regular performers will return: Robert Griffin, Jennifer Evans, Rick Keena, Leslie Land, STELLA, and the Piedmont Players. Others to be announced.
This is the sixth all-volunteer radio show since October 2011. “Our project taps into the tremendous talent we have in the Triangle,” says Donna Campbell, the show’s producer. “It is great fun. We are building community. And we raise money for some wonderful nonprofit agencies serving Orange and Durham counties.”
In addition to much-needed funds, the show raises awareness about community issues. The beneficiaries for the Nov 2 show are Hidden Voices and Partners for Youth, two essential agencies serving the Triangle.
Seating is limited to 150 in the auditorium of the recently restored Murphey School in rural Orange County. Two performances are planned for Saturday – a matinee at 3pm with a repeat performance at 7pm.
The evening performance will be recorded for broadcast on WCHL 97.9 FM.
The Historic Murphey School is located at 3717 Murphey School Rd., Durham, at the intersection with Old NC 10.
The Murphey School Radio Show is a program of the Shared Visions Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, and is produced by Minnow Media LLC.
