‘Sundays at Six’ Series, SUNDAYS AT 6PM, APRIL 28 – OCTOBER 13: starting on April 28th, with 24 concerts running every Sunday evening through October 13th (NOTE: No concert on September 29.) Our opening concert will feature ‘Great Guitar Music’ from local guitar legends Danny Gotham & Armand Lenchek, along with special guest, Wes Collins, winner of the 2012 NC Singer-Songwriter Co-op Competition.
We’re excited to present this season’s line-up of Sunday evening concerts, beginning each week at 6 pm. We invite our guests to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating, and to bring a picnic, or purchase food from any of the Southern Village food establishments. All performances are free, and will be held on the stage at the Village Green in Southern Village.
The music will range from rock to blues to jazz to bluegrass to Klezmer to Grateful Dead tributes, plus more. In addition to the Sunday night series, we’ll be presenting the following additional music dates:
Shakedown Street, SATURDAY, 6 – 9 pm, MAY 11: Third Annual Culbreth Middle School Booster Club Fundraiser, featuring live Grateful Dead-cover music. Free admission; donations accepted.
North Carolina Symphony, FRIDAY AT 7:30PM, MAY 31: The highlight of our outdoor music season each year is the annual FREE performance by the North Carolina Symphony. This will be the 14th year that we’ve hosted an evening under the stars with the N.C. Symphony. This year’s performance, featuring ‘Music from the Movies’, on Friday, May 31st at 7:30pm will be conducted by Music Director Grant Llewellyn in only his second-ever Southern Village appearance. This concert is free and the public is invited.
Music Maker Roots and Leaves Series, FRIDAYS AT 6PM, JUNE 7 – JUNE 28: We’re pleased to also announce the return of the Music Maker Roots and Leaves ‘Music Before the Movies’ series, taking place at 6pm on four Friday nights in June, from June 7th through June 28th. The series is presented by Music Maker Relief Organization, whose mission is to keep alive the many genres of traditional Southern music. They’re able to bring this series free of charge to the public through generous grants from the Strowd Roses Foundation, the Mary Biddle Duke Foundation, and Bryan Properties.
