That long-awaited and sweet time of year is finally here: Strawberry Season!  The Carrboro Farmers’ Market will be celebrating this year’s strawberry harvest with our Annual Strawberry Jamboree.

Starting at 8am, join us to sample fresh strawberries donated by Carrboro Farmers’ Market farmers, delicious signature yellow cake from Sera Cuni of Foster’s Market of Chapel Hill, and homemade whipped cream!
Look for canning tips and lots of strawberry recipes, from shortbread to vinaigrette to jam to salsa to smoothies – find lots of the other ingredients at market!  Pick up our U-Pick summary to find out which farms you can visit to pick your own strawberries, when they are open, and how to get there.   Visit our many strawberry-selling vendors and stock up your freezer and pantry for the year.  Listen to local musician David Hughes as he serenades the shoppers.  And don’t forget the kids – in addition to yummy strawberry samples there will also be face painting for the little ones!

Rob Bowers  of Whitted Bowers Farm says, “Strawberries are like love. They can be sweet or tart but always send you right to the heart.”

In other Market news, Mother’s Day is fast approaching and our vendors have been growing beautiful flowers for Mom – so don’t forget to come by and pick some up!  Bring the kids and join us on Wednesday, May 8th for Mother’s Day Card-Making and storytelling in the gazebo with local storyteller Cynthia Raxter, and come by the market on Saturday, May 11th for some stunning blossoms. Also, the market debuts its Chefs Who Shop Local series with Executive Chef Adam Rose of Il Palio on Wednesday May 15th. Chef Rose will feature a sampling and recipes using market ingredients, and market shoppers can look forward to more guest chefs appearances throughout the season!

At Market shoppers can now find strawberries, lettuces, green garlic, asparagus, green onions, beets, kale, greenhouse tomatoes, dandelion greens, radishes and other vegetables along with eggs, cheese, sweet & savory baked goods and a selection of meats including pork, chicken, bison, veal, lamb, goat, beef, and hot dogs as well as lots of plants for your spring garden.

We are also very excited to have Market Match funds available for EBT, WIC, and Senior customers, many thanks to the sponsorship of UNC Health Care.   The market will match EBT dollars spent with extra market bucks up to $5.  Farmers Market Nutrition Program WIC and Senior customers also get matched an extra $5 in tokens when they spend at least $5 with their vouchers.  Interested shoppers can stop by the Market info booth for more information.
