- extracting DNA from strawberries
- building catapults
- making recycled artwork
- and more!
The program also includes a keynote address for all students. Graduate and undergraduate science students from UNC-Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University will lead the sessions, with assistance from local high school volunteers.
One of the STEMville Science Symposium goals is to serve underrepresented groups in STEM education, focusing on women, Latinos, African-Americans and students in rural and urban communities of lower socioeconomic status. This is a joint effort and collaboration with the Carolina Latina/o Collaborative (part of the UNC Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs) and the NCSU College of Sciences Office of Diversity and Student Services. The symposium is open to all students in Grades 4-7 while spaces remain.
