The Tramp’s New World

From the Screenplay Treatment by James Agee

In his office atop the 50th floor of the Chrysler Building, legendary TIME Magazine writer James Agee furiously writes a screenplay hoping Chaplin Studios will finally accept. A sublime blend of Chaplinesque comedy and tragedy, The Tramp’s New World is a one-man show using silent film, physical comedy, and projection to adapt Pulitzer-Prize winner Agee’s lost screenplay to the stage for the first time.

Performance artist Brittany Chávez explores one story of a queer migrant from Guatemala to California through oral history performance. Using the body, testimonio/oral history, sound, and video installation environment, she will call others to witness the process of documenting migration stories through oral history told in and through the body//other bodies.

A (performance) journey through mixed metaphors and other circumstances of blasphemy, irony, and spiritual curiosity in the adventurous surreality of health and illness.
