San Francisco Symphony
April 6 @ 7:30 pm
An event every day that begins at 7:30pm, repeating until April 6, 2017
The San Francisco Symphony under music director Michael Tilson Thomas is among the most artistically adventurous arts institutions in the US, praised for outstanding musicianship, innovative programming, highlighting American composers and bringing new audiences to classical music. The April 5 program features music of the 20th century: John Cage’s poetic The Seasons, evoking the four seasons in changing colors; Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1—one of the most demanding works for the instrument—performed here by the charismatic young French cellist Gautier Capuçon;and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, one of his most popular and accessible compositions. The April 6 program features the Adagio from Mahler’s tumultuous 10th Symphony—his final work—along with his Symphony No. 1.
