Celebrating their 10th consecutive season presenting the works of the great literary mystic set against the backdrop of their original compositions, Adrian Vyner-Brooks (readings), Will Ridenour (Kora – African harp), Betsy Bevan (piano), Meredith Holladay (vocals) and Daniel Chambo (Bansuri – Indian flute) return to the Triangle on Friday, November 18, at 7:30pm for a mystical evening of poetry and music. This year the group is also delighted to welcome special guest Majid Bastani who will recite a selection of Rumi’s poems in their original language. The performance will take place at Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, located at 4907 Garrett Road in Durham. Suggested donation is $15.
Jelaluddin Rumi, the 13th century mystic poet, was truly one of the most passionate and profound poets in history. Born in what is currently known as Afghanistan in 1207, he produced his master work, the Masnawi, consisting of over 60,000 poems before he died in 1273. The timelessness of his words is proven again and again as they continue to inspire an innate awareness of the Divine in all who encounter them, even centuries after they were first given life by the author. This is “poetry of our place and time that rises above its own historical context and serves all peoples irrelevant of race or creed.”
This will be the group’s third year performing in the Triangle where they continue to develop and loyal following. Prepare to be transformed by this evening dedicated to “the eternal message of love that resonates with people of all beliefs”.
