Executive Director at The ArtsCenter, Art Menius, says of the upcoming show:
“Appalachian-American from the western slopes of Kentucky’s highest peak, Native American, African-American, Martha Redbone creates art of rare power and vision out of her multiple experiences of being American. The acclaimed The Garden of Love: The Songs of William Blake, produced by John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, shows her work taking mature form. Since its release Redbone confidently fronts a hybrid old-time string band/gospel ensemble, using Blake’s words to illuminate her own story. Her mountain and aboriginal background, as well as her apprenticeship as a neo-soul songwriter with Junie Morrison of P-Funk, provides a different perspective than many other young artists of color drawn to roots music.”
“Poised to be Americana’s next superstar,” wrote Village Voice. “A major find.”
