“Keeping Our Kids Safe” Parent Education Workshop

October 17, 2013 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

| Free

The Orange County Rape Crisis Center, in partnership with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA’s Darkness to Light initiative, is presenting a program for parents to address important safety issues. The presenter will discuss parents’ roles in prevention of child sexual abuse and skill-building to address the following questions:

“When do I begin discussing child sexual abuse with my children?”
“How should I approach this subject with my children?”
“How much should I tell my children?”
“What can I look for in settings and situations when I am not supervising my child?”

Available information will include the scripts that are used in presentations for 3 –11 year-olds, a list of possible indicators of abuse, and “what if” scenarios to review with your children.

Mon, Oct. 14, 6-7:30pm at the Chapel Hill Public Library, Meeting Rm A (100 Library Dr)
Thurs, Oct. 17, 12-1:30pm at the Orange County Main Library (137 W Margaret Ln, Hillsborough)

*This is the same workshop offered at two different times and locations in Orange County. No registration is required. Light snacks will be provided.
This workshop is the first of a series requested by the community! We plan to provide you with opportunities to expand upon the Y’s Stewards of Children training, but these workshops are open to all parents, educators, and those who work with youth in our community.
