Following in the Bartrams’ Footsteps
August 30, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
The North Carolina presents a nationally traveling exhibition of world-class contemporary botanical artwork depicting plants discovered and cultivated by 18th century naturalists, John and William Bartram, who traversed the southeastern wilderness of the American colonies, including North Carolina, from 1730-1790, recording the region’s flora, fauna, and Native American culture. The plant portraits reflect John and William Bartram’s passionate observation and discovery of nature, which has influenced generations of artists and explorers throughout the world. Over 25 writers, experts, botanists and artists will present workshops, lecture and tours during the exhibition’s run at the Garden.
