6:00 pm Program
On Oct. 23, Sheryl Oring will be at UNC’s Sloane Art Library to discuss her Collective Memory project and the artist’s book she created from the responses to the question, “What would you like the world to remember about 9/11?”
The free public program will begin at 6 p.m. Prior to the lecture, attendees will be able to view a display of the Collective Memory book project.
For Collective Memory, typists at antique black typewriters captured New Yorkers’ responses verbatim on cards that Oring reproduced and published as a boxed set. The Sloane Art Library owns one of only ten copies as part of its collection of artists’ books.
Collective Memory received the 2013 International Artist’s Book Award from the Minnesota Center for Book Arts.
