On November 6th, Chapel Hill Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual Fall Banquet. It will be located at Extraordinary Ventures at 200 South Elliott Road and doors will open at 6:00pm. Tickets are $50 and will include diner and drinks and a one year membership to Ducks Unlimited.
Ducks Unlimited has a great story to tell. We are the world’s largest wetlands and waterfowl conservation organization, with nearly 700,000 active members. Our grassroots membership is organized into approximately 3,500 local chapters, whose 50,000 volunteers host nearly 5,000 local fundraising events annually. This incredible network of men and women has generated nearly $2 billion for wetlands and waterfowl conservation since 1937.
These volunteer-generated funds have been used to restore, enhance, and develop nearly 11 million acres of wetlands and upland habitat. From Canada’s arctic north to the sub-tropical regions of Latin America, DU’s habitat projects focus on the various life cycle needs of North America’s migratory waterfowl.
But our story doesn’t end with waterfowl. More than 900 species of wildlife, as well as a countless array of aquatic- and plant-life, depend on DU projects as habitat.
Wetlands are one of the most productive sources of life on the planet. Wetlands represent less than five percent of U.S. landmass, but are essential to the survival of more than 35 percent of our threatened or endangered species.
Wetlands provide vital wintering and breeding grounds for all migratory waterbirds and many other migratory birds. They reduce soil erosion, provide buffers that protect water quality by filtering pollutants, and play a vital role in flood control by retaining runoff water.
