Last year, local non-profits, Carrboro town staff, and local businesses helped create the first ever Open Streets event in Carrboro. Open Streets events, based on the ‘ciclovía’ of Bogotá, Colombia, close down the streets to automobiles and open them for walking, bicycling, and other physical activity, from yoga and dance to rollerblading and rock-climbing and on a beautiful day in April 2013 an estimated 1500 people spent the day building community and recreating on West Weaver Street.
This year Carrboro Open Streets will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10:00am to 2:00pm and, once again, Weaver Street will be closed in order to provide a space to bring community together. Come and climb a rock wall, have your kids learn to ride a bike without training wheels, participate in yoga or dance, race in the slow bike race, make a smoothie with a bike blender and get tons of giveaways. An enthusiastic group of people is dedicated to making this event another great success and we would like for you to be part of the adventure!
