Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas
February 28, 2014 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm$24 - $28
“Although long resident in northern California, Alasdair Fraser remains the epitome of Scots fiddlers today, one of the great tradition bearers in any Celtic musical form in the early 21st century. He weaves traditional Scots tales into a narrative that connects the many tunes he renders with such consummate musicianship that he receives much of the credit for the resurgence of Scots fiddling. Along the way Fraser founded the acclaimed Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School and appeared with such folks as the Waterboys, Catherine Zeta-Jones, the Chieftans, Sean Connery, and Itzhak Perlman. Featured in numerous movies and on NPR and “CBS Sunday Morning,” Fraser comes to The ArtsCenter with Montreal-based Natalie Haas, the best known cellist in Celtic music today. Alasdair and Natalie should have a new CD out by the time they get here. Despite her youth, she has already appeared on more than fifty albums, worked extensively with Mark O’Connor, graduated from Julliard, and taught at Berklee. She and Fraser have toured together since 2002, released their first album a decade ago, and appeared in the Triangle at least twice before. Fraser and Haas are music at its very finest.”
