The North Carolina Tar Heels (2-0) managed to hold San Diego State (1-1) to 27 points while scoring 31 of their own on Saturday night in Kenan Stadium. An interception in the end zone sealed an exciting come-from-behind victory for UNC on a “Stripe-Out” night and the Tar Heels remained undefeated in their quest for a ACC title and NCAA Football Playoff berth.

Saturday marked the opening of the UNC football season after an off-season focused on the quarterback competition. Freshman Mitch Trubisky joined incumbent starter Marquise Williams in a balanced attack against the Flames, and UNC overcame early stagnation to eventually win, 56-29.

This year’s graduating class from Carrboro High School arrived early and ready for the final graduation ceremony at the Dean Smith Center on UNC’s campus. The students lined up with friends and blew off some steam while waiting for the final chapter of high school to conclude.

Located in Ram’s Plaza, fit4life Women’s Health Club – a great addition to Chapel Hill – held a Grand Opening event on Tuesday, May 13th, and WCHL was broadcasting live. Ron Stutts was on the mic, interviewing patrons and staff of the new 24-hour workout and fitness center. Bailey’s Sports Grille supplied the healthy snacks, and local vendors were invited to demonstrate goods and services, leaving everyone that stopped by totally satisfied.

Saturday, May 3rd marked the official opening of The Goddard School of Chapel Hill, an early childhood development center owned and operated by Seema Naik and her staff. WCHL and Chapelboro were there along with the folks from Kovens Construction to help celebrate the opening of a beautiful building, and many families from around the area came out to see what this new school has to offer. Local artist Rik Hermanson began designing the Uncommon Garden in 2002, starting from a simple plan to enhance the owner’s backyard. Today, after hundreds of tons of rocks, concrete, soil, boulders, water and plants have been hauled in, this formerly ordinary backyard is an intricate web of sculptural landscapes.
